Who We Actually Are

Transforming conflict zones into thriving communities

Background sketch

Our Story

Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it - we started this studio because traditional architecture wasn't cutting it for the places that needed it most.

Our work in progress

Back in 2018, our founder spent time in three different post-conflict zones. What she saw was heartbreaking - communities sitting on rubble, waiting for someone to tell them what to do next. That's when it clicked: these places didn't need pristine glass towers or award-winning vanity projects.

They needed functional spaces that'd actually work for real people dealing with real problems. So we ditched the fancy firm she was working at and started Faylen Warzone from a cramped co-working space on Queen West.

Seven years later, we've worked in 14 countries, rebuilt 23 community centers, and helped over 40,000 folks get back on their feet. Yeah, we're based in Toronto now with proper offices and everything - but we haven't forgotten where we came from or why this matters.

The People Behind the Projects

No corporate speak here - just folks who care way too much about buildings

Elena Faylen

Elena Faylen

Principal Architect & Founder

Started this whole thing after getting fed up with "starchitecture" that ignored actual human needs. Got her masters from Waterloo, spent five years at a big firm, then said screw it and went rogue. Now she splits time between Toronto and whatever zone needs us most.

Lead Urban Planner

Used to work in city planning for Toronto but found it way too slow and bureaucratic. Joined us in 2020 and hasn't looked back. He's the guy who figures out how to make communities actually function - not just look good on paper. Coffee addict, bike commuter, total mapping nerd.

Senior Structural Engineer

The person who makes sure our designs don't fall down. She's got 12 years dealing with damaged infrastructure and knows every trick for working with limited materials. Originally from Vancouver, joined us after a project in Lebanon changed her whole perspective on engineering.

Environmental Design Specialist

Handles all the environmental remediation work - basically cleaning up toxic sites so they're safe for people again. Background in both architecture and environmental science. He's saved our butts more times than I can count when dealing with contaminated industrial zones.

Heritage Preservation Lead

Our history buff who makes sure we're not bulldozing important cultural sites. She's worked on restoration projects across Europe and Asia. When conflict zones have centuries-old buildings mixed with modern damage, she's the one figuring out what to save and how.

Community Liaison Officer

The bridge between us and the actual communities we serve. He spends more time on-site than in the office, making sure we're building what people actually want and need. Speaks four languages, has lived on three continents, and doesn't take any BS from anyone including us.

Our Approach? Pretty Straightforward Actually

We listen first, design second. Spend time with communities, understand their actual needs, then build stuff that works for their reality - not ours. No ego projects, no awards-chasing. Just solid architecture that helps people rebuild their lives.

What We Believe In

Function Over Flash

A building that works beats a beautiful building that doesn't. Every single time.

Communities Know Best

We're architects, not saviors. The people living there understand their needs way better than we ever will.

Sustainability Isn't Optional

If we're rebuilding, might as well do it right. Local materials, energy efficiency, and long-term thinking.

Speed Matters

People can't wait years for shelter and infrastructure. We move fast without cutting corners.
